The Election Commission (EC) has urged Bangladesh Television and private television channels to ensure equal opportunities for all candidates in election-related coverage, stressing that a level playing field is essential for free, fair and credible polls.

In a statement issued on Wednesday and signed by EC Director (Public Relations) Md Ruhul Amin Mollick, the commission said creating a congenial electoral environment is vital to maintaining the integrity of the election process.

The EC noted that both state-run and private media can play an important role by ensuring balanced and impartial coverage of all candidates during election programmes, interviews, talk shows and televised dialogues.

Referring to Rule 25 of the Political Party and Candidate Code of Conduct–2025, the statement said candidates or their representatives may take part in televised election discussions but must refrain from making personal attacks or derogatory remarks.

The commission also called on all television channels and media outlets to remain cautious, provide equal access to all candidates and avoid broadcasting any statements that could demean or disparage any political party or candidate.
