National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA) on Saturday urged citizens to directly report social media posts that promote terrorism or incite violence through WhatsApp and email.
In a press release, the agency said complaints submitted via these channels would first be verified by the NCSA.
Once verified, the reports would be forwarded to the relevant social media platforms through Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC).
The agency clarified that the government does not have the authority to remove social media content on its own.
Instead, it can notify the concerned platforms about posts linked to violence by providing lawful and reasonable grounds.
The statement also noted that hate speech which directly leads to violence or calls for violent acts is a punishable offence under National Cyber Security Ordinance 2025.
Urging responsible use of social media, NCSA called on the public to avoid spreading violent content and to remain vigilant in order to safeguard national security and protect the lives and property of citizens.
