A writ petition has been filed with the High Court seeking directives to arrest those involved in the killing of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi and, if any suspects are abroad, to bring them back to the country through interpol.
The petition was filed on Sunday (December 21), by Arifur Rahman Murad Bhuiyan, founder and executive director of human rights organisation Sarda Society.

It also seeks a travel ban on suspected accused persons in connection with the killing. The writ names the secretary of the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the inspector general of police, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police commissioner, and the head of Bangladesh’s Interpol National Central Bureau as respondents.

According to the petitioner, the application seeks court orders and rules to ensure the arrest of those responsible for the killing of July movement activist Osman Hadi. If any of the perpetrators are found to be outside the country, the petition asks the court to direct the authorities to take steps through Interpol and other international mechanisms to secure their arrest and return to Bangladesh.

The petitioner said the writ specifically seeks a rule asking the respondents to explain why necessary orders should not be issued to apprehend and repatriate the two main suspects, if they are abroad, and why suspected accused should not be barred from leaving the country to ensure a proper legal process.
