Inqilab Moncho on Monday demanded the formation of a judicial tribunal within 24 hours and completion of the trial within one month to ensure justice for the killing of Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi, announcing a “Shaheedi Oath” rally at the Shaheed Minar on Tuesday.

The three-point demand was announced by Inqilab Moncho member secretary Abdullah Al Jaber after a protest march that ended at the Shaheed Minar on December 22. The organisation said the programme would be held at 3:00 PM on Tuesday (December 23).

Jaber said the home affairs adviser, his special assistant and the law adviser must appear before the media within 24 hours to disclose the steps taken in response to the demands. “Tomorrow at 3:00 PM, we will gather at Shaheed Hadi Square in Shahbagh and take a “Shaheedi Oath,” he said, adding that the advisers had been given a 24-hour deadline to publicly reveal who was behind the killing and what actions had been taken.

He warned that if the authorities instead held briefings through an additional IGP and attempted to downplay the killing, the movement would escalate its language and actions. Jaber also stressed that the national election must be held on schedule, alleging a conspiracy to delay the polls using the killing as a pretext. “Delaying the election and ensuring justice for Hadi are two separate issues and must not be conflated,” he said.

At the rally, Hadi’s brother Sharif Omar said the killers must be produced before the public regardless of where they are located. He said that if this was not done within 24 hours, participants would take an oath at the next programme and refuse to return home until the perpetrators were exposed. “No agency can stop us with inducements,” he added.

Inqilab Moncho’s Dhaka University unit spokesperson Fatema Tasnim Juma said the shooter, Faisal, carried out the final act and alleged that elements within the state were involved, claiming they were still acting in the interests of India and the Awami League. She said the platform would continue its agitation programmes.

Earlier in the day, Home Affairs Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said at a press conference that while the government had not yet confirmed whether those involved were inside the country or abroad, the case was being treated with the highest priority. He said 10 people had already been arrested by joint forces comprising police, RAB and Border Guard Bangladesh, and vowed that no one involved would be spared.

Separately, Law Adviser Asif Nazrul said in a Facebook post that the trial over Sharif Osman Hadi’s killing would be conducted under the speedy trial tribunal.

Inqilab Moncho’s three-point demand includes completing the trial within a maximum of 30 working days through a speedy tribunal with the involvement of international professional investigative agencies such as the FBI or Scotland Yard; identifying and prosecuting alleged Awami League-linked militants within civil and military intelligence agencies; and the resignation of the home affairs adviser, his special assistant and the law adviser, taking responsibility for the killing and explaining their alleged failure to the public.
