Some weapons are indeed entering through the borders ahead of the upcoming national parliamentary elections, said Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Monday.
”Law enforcement agencies are regularly intercepting and seizing the weapons.”
Addressing a programme marking Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Day 2025, the adviser said, ”I would not say that only two or three weapons are coming in, but weapons are entering. However, these are being seized regularly.”

Describing the force as a ”three-dimensional” entity, Jahangir Alam said the BGB is actively engaged in border security, maintaining law and order, and providing public welfare services.

He stressed that no drugs or illegal goods must be allowed to cross the border and that sensitive areas require heightened surveillance.
The adviser warned that strict legal action would be taken against smugglers as well as any personnel found aiding or abetting such crimes.

While responding to various queries from media about recent incidents, including bomb explosions at a madrasah, he said accomplices of the main perpetrator have already been arrested and efforts are underway to apprehend the principal culprits.
Replying to another question about possible arms intrusion ahead of the election, the Home Adviser said the Home Ministry and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) are fully prepared to ensure a peaceful election.
