Former Jashore Journalists’ Union president Shahid Joy’s wife No More

Shamima Akhter Swapna, wife of journalist Shahid Joy—former president of the Jashore Journalists’ Union and a member of Press Club Jashore—passed away last night.

She breathed her last around 11:00pm on Wednesday while undergoing treatment in the ICU of Jashore General Hospital. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un.

She is survived by her husband, two children, and many well-wishers.

According to Shahid Joy, his wife had been suffering from illness for a long time and had previously suffered three strokes. She suffered another stroke last Saturday and was admitted to Jashore General Hospital. As her condition deteriorated, she was shifted to the ICU two days ago. Doctors declared her dead around 11:00pm on Tuesday night.

Her janaza will be held today after Zuhr prayers in her residential area behind the BDR Camp in Jhumjhumpur, Jashore city. She will be laid to rest at Karbala graveyard. The family has requested prayers for the salvation of her soul.

Upon hearing the news of her death, Press Club Jashore General Secretary SM Touhidur Rahman, former general secretary Ahsan Kabir Babu, former Jashore Journalists’ Union president Nur Islam, senior journalist Jewel Mridha, union office secretary Kazi Rafiqul Islam, among other journalist leaders, rushed to the hospital.

Benapole Press Club expressed deep condolence over her death.
