Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Aminul Islam Bulbul is set to communicate with the International Cricket Council (ICC) following the exclusion of Mustafizur Rahman from Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

A BCB official confirmed the development to Daily Sun on Saturday.

“Our President will discuss all related matters with the ICC. The BCB will formally communicate with the ICC regarding the Mustafizur Rahman issue as well as Bangladesh’s participation in the upcoming T20 World Cup.” the BCB official said.

The development came after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) instructed Kolkata Knight Riders to release Mustafizur Rahman from their squad. The left-arm pacer was bought for a record price by the franchise during the recent IPL mini-auction held in Abu Dhabi.

The BCCI’s decision is understood to be linked to the deteriorating diplomatic relations between India and Bangladesh. Mustafizur, 30, was purchased by KKR for INR 9.2 crore following an intense bidding war with Chennai Super Kings, making him the most expensive Bangladeshi player in the history of the tournament.

“Due to the recent developments that are going on all across, BCCI has instructed the franchise KKR to release one of their players – Mustafizur Rahman of Bangladesh – from their squad and BCCI has also said that if they ask for any replacement, BCCI is going to allow that replacement,” BCCI secretary Devaji Saikia told ANI on Saturday morning.

The upcoming T20 World Cup will be held in India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8. Bangladesh, placed in Group C, will face West Indies, Italy, England and Nepal. Their first three matches will be played in Kolkata, while the final group fixture is scheduled to take place in Mumbai.
