Prayer gathering by port workers seeking forgiveness for the soul of Khaleda Zia

A prayer programme was held at Benapole Land Port in Jashore seeking eternal peace for the departed soul of BNP Chairperson and former three-time prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia.

The doa mahfil was organised on the initiative of Benapole Land Port Handling Workers’ Unions.

The programme was held on Wednesday (January 7) in front of Gate No-5 of Benapole Land Port, with Maksudur Rahman Rintu, president of Workers’ Union–892, presiding over the event.

BNP candidate for Jashore-1 (Sharsha) constituency Alhaj Nuruzzaman Liton attended the programme as the chief guest, while Sharsha upazila BNP senior joint general secretary Advocate Mostafa Kamal Mintu was present as a special guest.

The programme was conducted by Md Shahid Ali, general secretary of Workers’ Union–925, and the doa was led by Maulana Md Nazmul Hossain, imam of the Jame Mosque at the Benapole Land Port area.

In his brief speech, Alhaj Nuruzzaman Liton said Begum Khaleda Zia was a symbol of democracy and the people’s right to vote in the country. He added that her uncompromising leadership and sacrifices would remain eternally memorable in Bangladesh’s political history.

Seeking forgiveness for the departed leader, he prayed that Allah grant her Jannatul Ferdous and give strength and patience to her bereaved family members as well as party leaders and activists.

Among others present at the programme were BNP leader Masudur Rahman Milon, municipal BNP vice-president Md Alhaj Aktaruzzaman Aktar, Shahabuddin, joint secretary Meherullah Member, Alhaj Aktaruzzaman Aktar, Amirul Islam, Saheb Ali Master, Jasim Uddin and Jamal Hossain, along with leaders and activists of BNP and its associate bodies.

Before the munajat, party leaders expressed deep condolences over the death of Begum Khaleda Zia and offered prayers seeking forgiveness and eternal peace for her soul.

A large number of BNP leaders, activists, labour leaders and general people attended the doa mahfil.
