Newly elected JnUCSU leaders pay tribute at Khaleda Zia-Hadi’s mausoleum

The newly elected leaders of the Islami Chhatra Shibir-backed Odommo Jobian Oikka Panel in the Jagannath University Central Students’ Union (JnUCSU) election paid tribute to Begum Khaleda Zia by visiting her mausoleum.

They visited her mausoleum on Thursday evening. Later, they also paid homage at the mausoleum of Sharif Osman Hadi. This marked their first activity following the announcement of the election results.

The newly elected Vice-President (VP), Riazul Islam, said, “This JnUCSU is the result of collective efforts. This responsibility is a trust entrusted to us. We want to work with everyone for the betterment of the university and the country.”

The newly elected general secretary said, “The students gave us a mandate, and we will try our best to fully honor it. We will continue to work for the students, and our goal is to build the university as a center of academic excellence,” he added.

Earlier on Thursday at around 1:00am, the results were officially announced by Chief Election Commissioner Prof Mostafa Hasan, where the Islami Chhatra Shibir-backed panel emerged victorious, winning 16 out of the 21 posts.

According to the election commission, Riazul Islam, Abdul Alim Arif, and Masud Rana won the vice-president (VP), general secretary (GS), and assistant general secretary (AGS) posts, respectively.

Other winners from the Shibir-backed panel include Md Nur Novi as liberation war and democracy secretary, Ibrahim Khalil as education and research secretary, Sukhimon Khatun as science and technology secretary, Nur Mohammad as health and environment secretary, Habib Mohammad Faruk as law and human rights secretary, Nowshin Nawar Joya as international affairs secretary, Jorgis Anwar Naim as sports secretary, and Mostafizur Rahman as social welfare and student affairs secretary.

Meanwhile, candidates from the Chhatra Dal-backed panel won three secretary posts. They include Takrim Mia as literature and culture secretary, Mahid Hossain as transport secretary, and Md Riasal Rakib as library and seminar secretary.

Of the seven executive member posts, five were bagged by the Shibir-backed panel. They are Fatema Akter Aurin, Akib Hasan, Shanta Akter, Md Mehedi Hasan, and Md Abdullah Al Faruk. From the Chhatra Dal-backed panel, Md Sadman Amin won an executive member post, while Jahid Hasan was elected as an independent candidate.

In the Nawab Fayezunnesa Chowdhurani Hall Union election, the Islami Chhatri Sangstha–backed panel secured victories in most positions, including the three top posts.

According to the announced results, Jannatul Ummi Tarin, Sumaiya Tabassum, and Radwana Khawla won the VP, GS, and AGS posts, respectively.

Among the secretary posts, Sadia Afroz won as literary and publication secretary, Fatema Tuz Zohra (Imu) as cultural secretary, Fatema Tuz Zohra Samia as library secretary, Sabikun Nahar as sports secretary, Farzana Akter as social welfare and student affairs secretary, and Khadija Khatun won the health and environment secretary post.

For the executive member posts, Sabrina Akter, Naoshin Binte Alam, Mst Saima Khatun, and Laskar Rubaiyat Jahan emerged victorious.

Earlier, the Voting for the JnUCSU and hall union elections was held last Tuesday and vote counting began at 6:00pm using OMR machines but was suspended twice due to technical discrepancies. Later, after around 30-hours marathon vote counting, the results were announced at Thursday at around 1.00am.
