The International Cricket Council (ICC) has assured the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) that it is committed to ensuring the “full and uninterrupted participation” of the Bangladesh national team in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, scheduled to begin next month in India and Sri Lanka.

The assurance follows a formal letter from the BCB to the ICC raising serious concerns over the safety and security of Bangladesh players during the India leg of the tournament.

The board had sought clarity on security arrangements and requested that all possible options, including the relocation of Bangladesh’s matches, be kept open should the situation demand.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the BCB confirmed that it had received a response from the ICC addressing the concerns raised. According to the board, the ICC reiterated its responsibility to protect participating teams and expressed willingness to work closely with Bangladesh authorities in planning and implementing security measures.

“The ICC has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring Bangladesh’s full and uninterrupted participation in the tournament,” the BCB said. “It has also assured that the Board’s inputs will be welcomed and duly considered as part of the detailed and comprehensive security planning for the event.”

The BCB strongly rejected reports in a section of the media claiming that the ICC had turned down Bangladesh’s request to move its matches out of India or had issued an ultimatum regarding participation. The board described such reports as misleading and without factual basis.

“The BCB categorically states that such claims are completely false, unfounded and do not reflect the nature or content of the communication received from the ICC,” the statement said, adding that discussions between the two bodies remain constructive and professional.

Bangladesh’s concerns come against the backdrop of heightened sensitivities surrounding player safety and the broader regional context, with the BCB emphasising that it has a duty to prioritise the well-being of its cricketers above all else. Officials familiar with the matter said the board’s approach was precautionary and consistent with its responsibility to safeguard national players at global events.

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka, with matches spread across multiple venues. Bangladesh are scheduled to play several group-stage matches in India, although final venue allocations are yet to be confirmed.

The BCB said it would continue engaging with the ICC and tournament organisers to ensure that all necessary security protocols are in place well before the team’s arrival.

“The Board will continue constructive engagement with the ICC and relevant event authorities in a cooperative and professional manner to arrive at an affable and practical solution that ensures the smooth and successful participation of the Bangladesh team,” the statement noted.

Reaffirming its stance, the BCB stressed that the safety, security and mental well-being of the national players remain its highest priority, and that no decision would be taken lightly where player welfare is concerned.

Bangladesh are expected to begin their final phase of preparations for the World Cup later this month, with the board hopeful that ongoing dialogue with the ICC will result in clear assurances and a secure environment for the team throughout the tournament.
