Jatiya Nagarik Party (NCP), a member of the Jamaat-e-Islami–led 10-party electoral alliance, has announced candidates in 27 of the 30 parliamentary constituencies allocated to it under the alliance’s seat-sharing arrangement.
The party said candidates for the remaining three seats would be finalised soon. On Sunday, NCP published posters featuring the names and photographs of its candidates for 27 constituencies on its verified Facebook page, seeking votes for them under the party symbol “Shapla Koli” (lotus bud).
Among the confirmed candidates are party Convener Nahid Islam in Dhaka-11, Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain in Rangpur-4, Chief Organiser (south) Hasnat Abdulllah in Cumilla-4, Chief Organiser (north) Sarjis Alam in Panchagarh-1, Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary in Dhaka-8, and Senior Joint Chief Coordinator Abdul Hannan Masud in Noakhali-6.
Other candidates include Ariful Islam Adib in Dhaka-18, Mahbub Alam in Lakshmipur-1, SM Saif Mostafiz in Sirajganj-6, Sarwar Tushar in Narsingdi-2, Abdullah Al Amin in Narayanganj-4, SM Suja Uddin in Bandarban, Maulana Ashraf Mahdi in Brahmanbaria-2, Jobairul Hasan Arif in Chattogram-8 and Mohammad Ataullah in Brahmanbaria-3, among others.
Confirming the development, NCP Joint Convener and Secretary of the party’s central election management committee Monira Sharmin said on Sunday afternoon that candidates had been finalised in 27 constituencies and that the remaining three would be announced shortly.
Earlier on Thursday night (15 Jan), 10 political parties, including Jamaat-e-Islami and the NCP, announced a seat-sharing understanding in 253 constituencies.
Although Islami Andolan Bangladesh was initially expected to join the alliance, it later decided to contest 268 seats independently while supporting other candidates in the remaining 32.
NCP is contesting 30 seats under the electoral alliance, though it had submitted nomination papers for 47 candidates.
Following Islami Andolan’s withdrawal, the party has begun talks with Jamaat-e-Islami to increase its seat allocation, party sources said.
