The Election Commission (EC) has published a list of 115 symbols while suspending “Boat”, the electoral symbol of the Awami League.

On Wednesday, the Commission issued a notification in this regard.

However, the “Shapla” (Water Lily) symbol, already sought by the National Citizen Party, is not included in the list.

On 10 July, the Commission announced that with the addition of 46 new symbols, the total number of electoral symbols reached 115.

According to the notification, under the powers conferred by Article 94 of the Representation of the People Order, 1972 (President’s Order No 155 of 1972), the Election Commission has introduced this amendment to the Conduct of Elections Rules, 2008.

In the list, the “Boat” symbol has been suspended, and the “Daripalla” (Scale), electoral symbol of the Jamaat-e-Islami, has been restored.

Meanwhile, the NCP, currently in the process of registration, has applied to the EC again to get “Shapla” as its electoral symbol.

On Wednesday, the party submitted an application requesting “Shapla”, “White Shapla”, or “Red Shapla” as possible options.

On Tuesday, the Commission said Shapla was not on the official list of symbols and that the party must choose an alternative.
