Former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is under close medical observation at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka after being admitted on Sunday night due to worsening health.

Confirming the matter, her personal physician, Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain, said on Monday evening that she is receiving treatment under the supervision of a dedicated Medical Board. She was initially brought in for a routine check-up but was admitted following the onset of multiple health complications.

Professor Dr. FM Siddiqui, a member of the medical team, said Khaleda Zia developed a chest infection that has impacted both her heart and lungs, prompting urgent hospitalization.

“We acted quickly,” Dr. Siddiqui said. “After immediate tests, she was placed under the highest level of care and continuous monitoring.”

He added that her condition is stable but serious, and she remains under intensive medical supervision.
Ongoing Health Challenges

Khaleda Zia has long suffered from chronic conditions including diabetes, arthritis, kidney issues, respiratory problems, and vision impairment. She traveled to London in January 2025 for specialized treatment and returned to Bangladesh on May 6.

This is her second stay at Evercare this year—she was briefly hospitalized there on October 15 for evaluation.
Dr. Zahid Hossain said that Khaleda Zia has requested prayers from the public for her recovery.
